Venezuela is a country of striking natural beauty and dramatic contrasts- the snowcapped peaks of the Andes in the west; the steamy Amazonian jungles in the south, and the hauntingly beautiful Gran Saban Plateua, with its strange flat-topped mountains, in the east. There are over 1860 miles of white-sand beaches fringed with coconut palms lining the Carribean coast. South America's largest lake, Lake Maracaibo, and third-longest river, the Orinoco, are also here, and the country boasts the woarld's highest waterfall, Angel Falls. Venezuela is also home to a wide variety of exotic plants and animals, including the jaguar, oceolot, tapir, armadillo, anteater, and the longest snake in the world, the anaconda.

A trip to South America was once an extensive journey to places ad cities. Down one coast, across the continent and up the other coast. This is still a good bet for first time visitors with lots of time. But, ask yourself... how long would it take to see the most important cities and sights of the United States? Then double that for South America because it is almost twice the size! Today's preferences are for shorter trips to a single country or region - which is the theme of the this site. Let's start with Venezuela!

Caracas

Situated in a picturesque valley on the north coast, Venezuela's capital is a bustling metropolis of nearly 4 million inhabitants. Fast, progressive, and cosmopolitan, the city is now highly "Yankeefied," retaining little of the character of its colonial roots. It boasts some of the most impressive modern architecture in South America.

Caracas

There is polo, tango and a history that is reflected in the architectural styles of the French, Spanish and Italians. There is superb shopping in the arcades of the city, concerts to be enjoyed in the famous Colon Opera House and sights to be seen in the La Boca district with its tango bars, museums and galleries - this is the dynamic city of Buenos Aires!
